We've just released version 2.0 of betavine.net. In December we decided to re-write the whole platform using standard open source components. This gives us greater flexibility, allowing us to develop new site features for you to use.
Please note that we still have some final data migration to complete and therefore some functionality such as download counts may not be correct for a day so - please bear with us whilst we complete these final steps - thanks.

We are pleased to announce the first of a series steps we are taking to help promote Betavine apps to a wider audience. As of lunchtime today, there is now a link to betavine.mobi in the Applications area on Vodafone Live! in Spain. This is a fantastic opportunity that opens up Betavine to over 16 million mobile users! If this proves popular we hope to link with other countries in the near future.
The homepage displayed to users accessing the site from Vodafone Live! contains a set of 'Featured Applications'. If you would like to showcase your application via this channel, please email webmaster@betavine.net.
Vodafone Global are launching a suite of applications that work on a range of phones. Due to the way apps are hosted, and our inbuilt feedback and deployment system they have chosen Betavine to partner with.
Why not have a look at some of the apps!

We are pleased to announce that the latest release of Betavine has now gone live. This release includes a number of fixes and improvements based on the feedback we’ve received from the Betavine community. Some highlights include:
The list of Latest Apps on the homepage is now updated when files are added to an App Profile. Previously this was only updated when an App Profile was created
- We have now included a Betavine search at the top of each page of the site. This should hopefully make finding the services and information we offer easier
We hope you enjoy this latest release – as always, any feedback via the forums is appreciated!

Huawei E172 Linux Drivers
Hello Linux users,
we at betavine would like to know how many people are having issues using the Linux drivers with the Huawei E172 USB HSDPA datacard. So if you have used it and it's not worked why not send a post here. If you have had issues but resolved them, then please let us know. We can then: 1) Take an action to fix in future releases; and 2) Let other people know how to get around any problems that may be out there. Regards, Nicholas Herriot. |

.: I get the permanent blue light but no real internet access, and I can't edit profile to try dynamic DNS :.
Hello, I recently decided to give Linux a try and installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my old laptop (a Presario 700 from Compaq). I have a Huawei E172 that works fine on my eeePC but sadly I did not manage to get web access with it on the Compaq : I tested vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux_1.99.17_i386.deb (adding the required packages) unsuccessfuly (the program shows up briefly in the task bar then quits) and then vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-20080205-installer.run This .run file worked better as I managed to connect to the Internet* : permanent blue light. But DNS problems prevented me from getting a real functional access, like simply browsing a site like this one. I changed the primary and secondary DNS and other parameters a few times, using the suggested ones (I use SFR in France). A guy suggests using non-static DNS but when I choose the dynamic DNS clicking on profile validation button is not functionnal. Hope this gives hint for fix. Thanks for your work. * : the default DNS gave me the "3 unsuccessful connecting attempts", I got the connection using the secondary as primary iirc, as seen on a french board. |

Hi,
I have a e172 with an SFR sim, on a dell xps laptop running ubuntu hardy heron. I use vmc 1.99.17 and I'm rather happy with it. However: - the usage tab gives completely bogus results, which is particularly annoying when you have an enterprise account and no means to see your usage. - I had to recompile the debian packages myself for x86_64. It's quite easy when you're used to it, but still it would be better to provide x86_64 debs on your forge. Also, I had to remove the following po files to recompile: el.po, no.po, pt.po. I must say I didn't had much time to investigate - the e172 was detected with the profile HuaweiE270-3Gprefered: is the "2" in "270" a typo? - I am rather bored to have to say "cancel" to the autorun and to umount the "virtual cd image" everytime I plug the key. Has anyone an idea how to fix this? (maybe with hotplug rules?) Keep up the good work! Rgds, Gildas |

Hi mael,
there is a little hack you can use to avoid your usb modem to automatically be mounted as a cdrom device. In the file /etc/udev/rules.d/99-huawei-e220.rules you must add the following line: SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi" ATTRS{vendor}=="HUAWEI", OPTIONS+="ignore_device" and then exec: $sudo udevcontrol reload_rules next time you connect the modem it should not be detected as cdrom. Regards, Vicente. |

There's no TLD in that URL, so, I'm surprised it would resolve at all?

Hi hells,
Yes as Neil already said the top level domain does not resolve, so that means you have a typo in the repository setup. I can see actually that there are two. You should make sure of the following when setting up the repository; Type is 'Binary (deb)' URI is http://betavine.net/repo/debian/dists/etch/ Distribution is EeePC/ Section(s)is empty I can see from your post that you have both the 'betavine.net' bit of the uri incorrect, and also the distribution should be 'EeePC/', note the 3 eee's. Hope that helps Andrew |

Hi,
I have the Huawei E172 USB HSDPA datacard attached to a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop with Ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron. I'm able to connect to the datacard and send and receive SMS text messages but i'm not able to connect to the internet. "Connection" pops up for a few seconds and then a configuration error popup message at the top of the screen appears. However, I managed to make the connection manually outside the software (but the software must still be running as it keeps the datacard authenticated). (from memory:) Console1: sudo wvdial hsdpa (wait for PPP connection and DNS addresses) Console2: sudo route add default gw 10.64.64.64 In the wvdial.conf I had to enter a new section named with the following data Dial *99***16# Username vodafone Password vodafone live.vodafone.com Somehow I need to tell the vodafone software to use these values so that it will also be able to connect. How can I do that? Scott. |

Hi Scott,
You might find it works better by blacklisting the 'airprime' module. See this other thread for how to do it. http://www.betavine.net/web/guest/forums/message_boards/message/1163 Best regards, Andrew |

Hi,
I'm trying to use a Huawei E172 on a HP Mini-Note running SLED 10 SP1. I downloaded "vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-1.0-SLED101.i586.sh" which appeared to install ok, and an icon for the application appears in my Applications, but nothing much happens when I try to run it. When I insert the E172, I get flashing green light and flashing blue light, and the CDROM image appears, but nothing else, and again when I try to run the application... nothing. Any suggestions for a total Linux newbie? |
